Trial of former daycare worker continues today Testimony will continue today in the trial of a former daycare worker accused of committing sexual acts in front of five boys. Antonio “Tony” Taurus Sarratt, 19, of 421 Peeler St., Gaffney, is charged with five counts each of lewd act on a minor and indecent exposure. The Cherokee County jury has heard testimony from the boys, who were 8, 9 and 10 years old at the time of the alleged incidents. The trial began Monday. The boys testified that Sarratt formed a homework club and that they would meet behind a closed door in a room at Little Angel’s afterschool program at 323 Providence Road, Gaffney. Sarratt is accused of performing sexual acts in front of the boys. He is also accused of touching some of the boys. The incidents allegedly occurred between January and May 2003. Sarratt was arrested Dec. 26, 2003. The 2003 Gaffney High graduate began working at the daycare in the fall of 2002 after visiting the center as a teacher cadet through Gaffney High. He was fired in August 2003 after a student under his supervision was injured, according to daycare owner Linda McCraw. |
