Verna K. Hawthorne

Homemaker

Verna Kahofer Hawthorne, 86, of 907 Gowdeysville Road, passed away M o n d a y, Dec. 12, 2005, at her residence.

She was the widow of Bruce Carlton Hawthorne and daughter of the late Frank Kahofer and Martha Bruecker Kahofer. Mrs. Hawthorne was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hawthorne is survived by a son, J. Marlin Hawthorne of Norwell, Mass.; a daughter, Marjorie E. Hawthorne Allison of the home; and six grandchildren, Sabrina K. Hawthorne of Boston, Mass., Stephanie N. Hawthorne of New York City, Felicia A. Hawthorne, Francesca B. Hawthorne, John Marlin Hawthorne III and Grayson A. Hawthorne, all of Norwell, Mass.

The family will receive friends at the residence today, Dec. 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The family will be at the residence.

James E. Mathis

Retired from Cecil’s Inc.

James Earl Mathis, 84, of 3195 Old Georgia Hwy., died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at Peachtree Centre.

A native of Gaffney, he was the widower of Doris Wilma Grubb Mathis and son of the late Jim Mathis and the late Bernice Fowler Mathis. He was a retired

construction superintendent

with Cecil's

Inc. and was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church. Mr. Mathis was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are a son, Nathan Mathis and wife, Byrd, of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandsons, Lee Mathis and wife, Emily, of Knoxville, Josh Mathis of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Chris Ormand of Summerville, N.J., and Scott Ormand, currently serving in Iraq, and wife, Jenna; brothers, Holland Mathis and wife, Sue, of Rock Hill and Harold Mathis of Gaffney; sisters, Hazel Hudson and husband, Sam, of Gaffney and Millie Gibson of Douglasville, Ga.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by a daughter, Madeline Jean Ormand.

Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery, conducted by Dr. Clyde Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends from the Hardee's Men's Breakfast Group.

Wilhelmina Tynes Wilhelmina Tynes, 80, originally from Atlantic Highland, N.F., died this morning, Dec. 14, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Ms. Tynes was the sister of Flora Gist of 1012 N. Logan St., Gaffney.

Charles R. Allison

Retired truck driver

BLACKSBURG – Charles Ray Allison, 61, of 1160 Rock Springs Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

A native of Waynesville, N.C., he was the husband of Ann Creasman Allison and son of the late Steve Allison and the late Bethel Rhodarmer Allison. He was a retired truck driver for an oil company and was a member of Broad River Baptist Church in Blacksburg. Mr. Allison was a member of the Gold Prospectors of American and was a lifetime member of LDMA.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons Mark (Tony) Creasman of the home and Farrell Eugene Herren of Bryson City, N.C.; three daughters, Deborah Holden of Blacksburg, Angela Allison of Inman and Stephanie Herren of Swananoa, N.C.; two brothers, John Allison of Grass Valley, Calif., and Steve Allison of Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Allison was preceded in death by a sister, Manilla Parker.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Broad River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Norman Philbeck and Chaplain Cindy Adair Inman. Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens. Body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Harley Ham, Benny Holden, William Jackson, Joshua Ramey, Roy Whiten and Tony Creasman.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Gordon Mortuary and at other times the family will be at the residence, 1160 Rock Springs Road.

Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Blvd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29301.

Elliott Littlejohn

Brickmason, electrician

mechanic and carpenter

Elliott Littlejohn, 43, of 608 Littlejohn St., died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at North Augusta Burn Center.

Mr. Littlejohn was the son of King Lemuel Littlejohn Sr. and Jessie Dawkins Littlejohn. Born May 4, 1962 in Gaffney, he was a certified brickmason, electrician, mechanic and carpenter and was a member of Indian Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, King Lemuel Littlejohn Jr. of Gaffney and Adrian Bernard Littlejohn of Texas; five sisters, Georgette Littlejohn, Vickie Drummond Smith, Bridgette Littlejohn, Willette Littlejohn and Cathy Littlejohn, all of Gaffney; two children that were like his own, Jerrell and Dwaun Jefferies of Gaffney; and host of nieces and nieces.

The family is at the residence, 608 Littlejohn St.
