LETTER
Outraged over high cost of heating
Dear Editor:
Just received my gas bill today. Unbelievable! I expected to pay more since I was aware of the increase, but this is absolutely ridiculous.
Last month my bill was $99. This month it is $484. And this was for only 28 days at a thermostat setting of 68 degrees.
I’m complaining, yes, but my real outrage is for the elderly and those on fixed incomes who can hardly afford to pay their utility bills now. What are they to do? I recently purchased a kerosene heater as an alternative source of heat, but it looks like I may be using it on a more regular basis now. (I wonder what a 30 or 31-day cycle will cost me.)
Quite a few people I know have already started using their wood-burning fireplaces. Good for them.
I’m sure this is not the only letter you’ll receive concerning the high heating costs.
Are we just supposed to grin and bear it? Well, I’m certainly not grinning.
I guess we can add gas bills to that old adage about death and taxes.
Excuse me please. I have to go lower the thermostat and put on another sweater.
