Maxine B. Mullins

Maxine Byars Mullins, 74, formerly of 604 Wilkinsville Hwy., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Magnolia's of Gaffney.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of Charles Virgil Mullins and daughter of the late Claude Byars and Clara Hughey Byars. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Mullins is survived by a son, Charles Wayne Mullins and his wife, Ann P., of Gaffney; and two grandchildren, Charlie Mullins and Kelly Mullins Parker.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by Mr. Ashby L. Blakely.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, S.C. 29615.
The family is at the home of Kelly Mullins Parker, 133 Red Bud Lane, Gaffney.

Harry L. Bridges
Cherokee County native
Harry Lee Bridges Sr. 78, of Salisbury, N.C., died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, in Salisbury.
Widower of Pearl Booker Bridges, he was born in Cherokee County, son of the late Melton and Annie Watts Bridges. He was s former member of Concord Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Hattie Lue Ellis, Annie Laura Caldwell, both of Statesville, N.C., and Joann Moorehead of Atlanta; five sons, Harry Lee Bridges Jr., Melton Bridges, Brian Bridges, all of Statesville, Kenneth Watts and Steve Watts, both of Gaffney; and one brother, Carl R. Bridges of Gaffney.
Services will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Davis and Magnum Funeral Home, Statesville. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Statesville. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Donald W. Hammett
Truck driver for Heartland
CAMPOBELLO – Donald Wayne Hammett, 48, of 1170 Hammett Road, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, in St. Luke's Hospital.
A native of Polk County, he was the son of Robert A. and Dorothy Thomason Hammett and husband of Peggy Jean
Horne Hammett. He
was a member of Motlow
Creek Baptist Church and was a truck driver for Heartland. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hammett is survived by two sons, Jerry Lee Gibson of Pacolet and Bert Dwayne Gibson of Jonesville; a daughter, Kimberly Marchelle Gibson of Gaffney; a brother, Bruce Hammett of Campobello; two sisters, Debbie Babb and Rita Hyder, both of Campobello; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Motlow Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Terry Rainey and Henry Farmer. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Petty Funeral Home, 124 N. Trade St., Landrum.

Jerry Fowler
Welder
Stanley (Jerry) Fowler, 59, of 1034 Pacolet Hwy., died today, Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Joyce Wray Fowler and son of the late Claude Benson fowler and the late Pearlsie meadows Fowler. He was a welder and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition o his wife are a son, Dewayne Robert Fowler of Gaffney; two daughters, Claudette Fowler Green and Violet Rene Fowler of Gaffney; two brothers, Claude Randall Fowler and Paul Mansel Fowler of Gaffney; a sister, Annette Fowler Remke of Hilland, Ky.; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.

Aniaya Takia Goodwin, 8 weeks, of 630 Colonial Ave., Apt. 55, passed on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at 12:15 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, Spartanburg.
Surviving are her parents, Ateria Goodwin of the home and Thomas Ross Jr. of Spartanburg; grandparents, Sylvia Keitt of Spartanburg, Victor Smith of Forest City, N.C., Joyce O'Fori and Thomas Ross Sr. of Spartanburg.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Dr. A.L. Brackett.

Brenda Peek Retired from Limestone Mfg.

Brenda Peek, 63, of 109 Lincoln Drive, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at 2:04 p.m. at Brookview HealthCare, 510 Thompson St.
Daughter of the late M a t t h e w Peek Sr. and the late Gennie Vee Wilson Peek, she was a native of Cherokee County and a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board and Missionary. She was a member of the NAACP and graduated in 1960 from Granard High School. She retired from Limestone Manufacturing Company and Gaffney Manufacturing Company.
Surviving are two sons, Lanza Peek of the home and Nathan B. Peek of McCormick; two sisters, Patsy J. Tate of Gaffney and Mary A. Knuckles of East Orange, N.J.; a nephew whom she reared as a son, Leon Peek of the home; one grandchild, Natrina Nell Peek of Gaffney; and a special friend, Jessie Mae Manning of Gaffney.

Funeral services for Marnette Lunell House, daughter of Rev. Thomas and Eloise Toms Burson, will be held Saturday, Dec. 31, at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Institutional Baptist Church, 2400 Greenland Ave., Charlotte. Quiet time will be from 2:30-3 p.m.

Retha B. Clowney
Union County native
SPARTANBURG – Retha Boyd Clowney, 92, of 309 Retha Drive, widow of William Clowney, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Inman after a long illness.
A native of Union County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Johnny and Elvira Osborn Boyd and was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Union County. She was also a member of Monks Grove Baptist Church Missionary and the Sympathy Club. Surviving are four daughters, Mahila Kerns, Doretha Bomar, Dorothy Mae Martin, all of Spartanburg, and Willie Mae Smith of Kannapolis, N.C.; three sons, David Clowney of Washington, D.C., Timothy Clowney and William Clowney, both of Spartanburg; six sisters, Nettie Boyd, Lucille Oglesby, Dorothy Peeler, Hattie Gaffney, all of Gaffney, Thelma Hoyle of Gastonia, N.C., and Lillie B. Fuller of Spartanburg; three brothers, Eddie Boyd of Gaffney, Nathaniel Boyd of Charlotte and Rascoe Boyd of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 24 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Doretha Bomar, 3026 Retha Drive, Spartanburg.
