Students will make up two ‘ice days’

Cherokee County students will make up the two days missed because of an ice storm in December.

Most of the district’s students attend school on a traditional 9-month calendar. Luther Vaughan, Alma and Mary Bramlett elementary students attend school year-round.

Students on the traditional school calendar will report to school Feb. 3, previously scheduled for a parent conference day, superintendent Dr. Bill James said. Students will also report to school Feb. 20, previously scheduled for a staff development day.

Teachers on the traditional calendar will conduct parent conferences on the evening of Feb. 2 as scheduled.

“They will schedule appointments with parents during planning periods or after school for those parents that cannot attend on Feb. 2,” James said. “The evening of Feb. 2 will count as a half makeup day for teachers.”

Students on the year-round school calendar will report to school Jan. 13, previously scheduled for a parent conference day. Students will also report to school Feb. 20, previously scheduled for a staff development day.

Teachers on the year-round calendar will conduct parent conferences on the evening of Jan. 12, James said. Teachers will schedule appointments during planning periods or after school with parents who cannot attend Jan. 12.

“The evening of Jan. 12 will count as a half makeup day for teachers. The remaining days will be added to the end of the calendar,” James said. “Any additional days missed due to inclement weather will be made up by students on the March staff development day and/or added to the end of the calendar.”

Weather-related school closing decisions are posted on the district’s information line, 902-3621.
