New industry will employ 50
The old Elizabeth Weaving mill in Blacksburg has a new tenant.
The Department of Commerce announced Wednesday that Tahoe LLC has purchased the mill and plans to make woven textiles for the home decor market.
The company began operations in August, creating 50 new jobs, according to the DOC press release.
“We’re pleased that Cherokee County, and just as important, the state of South Carolina were the winners for this new venture,” South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Bob Faith said. “We continue to be a competitive force in the textile industry and are glad that this announcement helps bring new jobs to this community.
“Tahoe’s desire to keep operations in the United States played a major role in Blacksburg gaining this new company.”
Tahoe LLC is the result of a merger of North Carolinabased Elite Textile and National Contract Associates of Roswell, Ga.
“We are excited that Tahoe LLC has moved into the Blacksburg area,” Cherokee County Council Chairman Hoke Parris said. “By occupying the old Elizabeth Weaving facility, they will supply jobs for displaced workers in that area.”
