Ledger’s former production supervisor dies at age 66
Kenneth E. Crawford Kenneth E. Crawford, 66, of 1024 Buck Shoals Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at his residence.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Jackie Godfrey Crawford and son of the late Clyde W. Crawford and Margaret Spencer Crawford. He was retired from The Gaffney Ledger, where he was production supervisor, and was a member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Crawford was Mason and member of
the National Guard.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kenneth Richard Crawford and Nita Humphries of Gaffney; two daughters, Robin Denise Martin and Veronica C. Hulsey, both of Gaffney; a brother, Donnie Crawford of Rutherfordton, N.C.; four grandchildren, Summer Griffith Robertson, Derek Scott Griffith, Lindsay Marie Crawford and Ethan Richard Crawford; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Adair Robertson, Nicholas Andrew Robertson and Tyler Scott Griffith.
The family will be at the residence.

Retired nurse
Elizabeth Ann Hampton Murray, 66, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at Brookview HealthCare Center.
A native of Clover, she was the daughter of the late Carl Hampton and the late Zelma Bolin Hanos. She was a retired nurse and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son, John William Mangrum Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; three daughters, Dawn Marie Blackwell and husband, Dwayne, of Gaffney, Lesa Rene Mangrum of Warrensville, N.C., and Stephanie M. Reynolds and husband, Steve, of Gaffney; grandchildren, Clinton Shane Pittman, Michael Steven Reynolds, James Earl Reynolds, Cathy Marie Blackwell and Misty Lynn Reynolds, all of Gaffney; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Toxie McCarter, and her stepfather, Charlie Hanos.
Services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Benny Davis. Burial will be in Moutainview Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John William Mangrum, Clinton Shane Pittman, Michael Steven Reynolds, Jack Steven Reynolds, Bobby Dwayne Blackwell and Benito Aguilar Evaristo.

Ara Mathis
Retired from Oxford Ind.
Ara Catherine Cook Mathis, 83, of 128 Goucher Green Bethel Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of Carl Mathis and daughter of the late Harshall Cook and Edna Parker Cook. She was retired from Oxford Industries.
Mrs. Mathis was a member of the Addie Brown Group and a former Sunday School teacher at Goucher Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Wayne Mathis and his wife, Andrea, of Gaffney, Cecil Mathis and his wife, Ann, of Gaffney and Gary Mathis of Simpsonville; two brothers, Roy Cook of Pacolet and Harshall Cook of Gaffney; a sister, Christine Tate of Lincolnton, N.C.; five grandchildren, Kristin Mathis of Gaffney, LCpl; Lucas Mathis and his wife, Ashley, of Okinawa, Japan, Matthew Mathis and his wife, Jennifer, of Locust Grove, Ga., Marcus Mathis and his wife, Misty, of Charlotte and Michael Mathis of Charleston; and two greatgrandchildren, Andrew and Joseph.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by a brother, John Cook.
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Goucher Baptist Church with the Revs. Norman Gardner and Todd Braswell officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Mathis, Michael Mathis, Marcus Mathis, LCpl Lucas Mathis, Smitty Cook, Stanley Tate, Johnny Cook and Reid Wilkins.

SENECA – Carl Timothy Reynolds, 45, of 336 S. Cove Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late Carl Eugene Reynolds and Patsy Ponder Reynolds. He was a School and was formerly employed by General Electric Company.
Surviving are his stepmother, Benita Lipsey, and her husband, Charles, of Gaffney; two brothers, Gary Harvey of Seneca and Terry Harvey of Gaffney; and two sisters, Debbie Reynolds Vick and Donna Reynolds Byars, both of Batavia, N.Y.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alan Peeler officiating. Interment will be in Grover City Cemetery, Grover, N.C.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.

Doris L. Epps
Cherokee County native
Doris L. Epps, 61, of 100 White Oak Drive, Apt. 17, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, in Upstate C a r o l i n a Medical Center.
Born April 26, 1944, in C h e r o k e e County, she was the wife of Joe Dean Epps Sr. and daughter of the late Cedric Jefferies and Ruby Proctor Jefferies. She attended True Holiness in Gaffney.
Mrs. Epps was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Jefferies, and a great-grandchild.
Also surviving are two sons, Joe Dean Epps Jr. (Barbara) of Easley and Travis Epps of Gaffney; two daughters, Ruby Linder (Wilbert) and Dottie Epps of Gaffney; six sisters, Virginia Johnson of Gaffney, Gloria Watkins of Forest City, N.C., Shirley Ashe of Lexington, N.C., Carol Lipscomb, Renee Sims (Gary), Bernadette North (Steve) of Gaffney; three brothers, Robert Jefferies (Bobbie), Horace Jefferies of Gaffney and Joe Dean Jefferies of Lexington, N.C.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Ruby Linder, 131 E. Third St., Gaffney.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Marion Avenue Church of Christ, 616 Marion Ave. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church Tuesday at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home.
Freddia Brown
Services for Freddia Brown, 59, of 2384 2nd Ave., New York City, will be held today at 2 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Dover. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers will be her nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Brown, a native of Gaffney, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, in the North General Hospital in New York City. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Brown Sr. and the late Lillie Mae Jefferies Brown.
The family is at 406 Hetty Hill St.
