Kenneth E. Crawford, 66, of 1024 Buck Shoals Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at his residence.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Jackie Godfrey Crawford and son of the late Clyde W. Crawford and Margaret Spencer Crawford. He was retired from The Gaffney Ledger, where he was production supervisor, and was a member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Crawford was a Mason and member of the National Guard.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kenneth Richard Crawford and Nita Humphries of Gaffney; two daughters, Robin Denise Martin and Veronica C. Hulsey, both of Gaffney; a brother, Donnie Crawford of Rutherfordton, N.C.; four grandchildren, Summer Griffith Robertson, Derek Scott Griffith, Lindsay Marie Crawford and Ethan Richard Crawford; and three greatgrandchildren, Elizabeth Adair Robertson, Nicholas Andrew Robertson and Tyler Scott Griffith.
Services were held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Mike Frazier and Greg McVey. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ryan Godfrey, Lee Martin, Jeff Martin, Scotty Bolf, Cody Sossamon, Dean Marcoux, Ricky Ruppe and Gerald Yarborough.

Callie O. Torres
Gaffney native
Callie Sabrina Owensby Torres, 27, of 2417 Cherokee Ave., died Thursday, Jan 5, 2006, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, she was the wife of John Blaze Torres of Cleveland, Ohio, and daughter of Otha "Buck" Owensby Jr. of Blacksburg and Billie Sheryl Slawn Herrin of Gaffney. She was a member of Corner Stone Church and worked in a grocery store as a cashier.
Surviving are her husband and parents two daughters, Andre Blaise Torres and Jessie Sabrina Torres of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Samuel Lee Owensby and Billy Joe Owensby, both of Gaffney; a step-sister, Nikki Herrin of Gaffney; stepfather, Ted Richard "Richie" Herrin of Gaffney; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Thompson Owensby of Gaffney; and maternal stepgrandfather, Ted Richard Herrin Sr. of Gaffney.
Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Corner Stone Church, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Kanipe. Burial was in Rehobeth Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Morgan, Ricky Henderson, Donnie Grissen, Matt Trulove, Dwaine Blackwell and Richard Blackwell.
The family is at the residence.

Harold G. Gregory
Mason
Harold Gene Gregory, 73, of 258 Garner Road, passed away Jan. 7, 2006, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Union, SC, he was the husband of Carolyn Phillips Gregory and son of the late Lewis Gregory and Mae Cudd Gregory. Mr. Gregory was retired from Broad River Electric Cooperative, Inc. He was a Mason and of the Baptist faith.
Also surviving are two daughters, Cindy Dover and her husband, John and Ann Sanders and her husband, Chuckie, all of Gaffney; a brother, R. T. Gregory, of Gaffney; three sisters: Bessie G. McCullough, Gladys Wood, both of Gaffney, and Annie Inman of Union, SC. He was preceded in death by five sisters: Mary Belue, Maude Horne, Sarah Brown, Nettie Whelchel and Lillian Gregory.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Bratton and Rev. Bobby Cable officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Mildred P. Poole
Retired textile employee
Mildred Patrick Poole, 92, of 709 8th St., Gaffney, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at her home.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late J.F. Lee Patrick and the late Minnie Lee Blanton Patrick and widow of Jack Poole.
She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was a retired textile employee. She also retired as a baker from the Cherokee County School District after working in the cafeteria at Mary Bramlett Elementary School.
She is survived by a son, Don Poole, of Pageland; a daughter, Virginia P. Scruggs of Kings Mountain, N.C.; a brother, Gene Patrick of Gaffney; two sisters, Sudie Biggerstaff of Gaffney and Helen Wertz of Hendersonville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Cardyn Poole, and three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Shuford Hatcher Chapel, downtown, with the Revs. Scott Kierstead and Stuard Kersey officiating. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. The family is at the residence.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Vickie Millwood Formerly with Drayton Mill
MAYO, S.C. — Vickie Gwen Whelchel Millwood, 64, of 314 Dennis Court died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at her home.
A native of Gaffney, she is the daughter of Elizabeth Moore Whelchel of Gaffney and the late Carl Lee Whelchel and is the widow of Cleveland N. Millwood.
She was formerly employed with Drayton Mill and attended Church of God of Prophecy in Cowpens.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Tony Parris, of Mayo; two brothers, Gerald Whelchel of Gaffney and Kenneth Whelchel of Forest City, N.C.; three sisters, Shirley Wyatt, Peggy Wilkie Henson, and Maggie Thomas, all of Gaffney; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney Whelchel and Dan Whelchel, and two sisters, Gail Mode and Betty Phillips.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Vernon Mullinax officiating.
The family will be at the home of a niece, Debra Hood, 602 Anthony St., Gaffney.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Syble Wells Sanders, 80, of 302 Plantation Drive died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Born in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Whitney and Sallie Blalock Wells and the wife of Dathia Sanders of the home.
She was a homemaker and a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, David Sanders and his wife, Debbie, of Gaffney, and Steve Sanders and his wife, Teresa, of Kings Mountain; a sister, Lollie McDaniel of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Nell McSwain, Ruth Randle, and Claudie Timms; and a brother, Jeff Wells.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Don McSwain officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.

Samantha Clark of Mountain View Apartment, Apt. 161, Mountain View Street, Blacksburg, died on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006.
Daughter of the late Thomas Clark and the late Ruthphene Woods Clark, she was a native Cherokee County.
She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church and was a member of the Usher Board. She was a graduate of Blacksburg High School. She was an employee of Magnolia Finishing Plant and Kangaroo Store Aunt M's.
She is survived by her son, Marcella Rashawn Clark of Spartanburg; her sister, Ms. Franane Clark of Blacksburg; her brother, Rev. Troy Clark of Jonesville, three aunts, Mrs. Brenda Davis of Blacksburg, Mrs. Sandra Dover and Rev. Dempsey Wheeler of Gaffney; three uncles, Fred William Dover of Gaffney, Louie Davis of Charleston, and Joe Wheeler, Sr. of Spartanburg; her sister-in-law, Rev. Verionica Clark; her brother-in-law, Steve McBeth, Sr.
Funeral services will be held on today at 2:30 P.M. at Galilee Baptist Church with the Revs. Les Howard, Thelma Gordon, Annie Watts, Ida McCaw and Troy officiating.
Burial will follow in Stooping Pines Methodist Church Cemetery, Smyrna.
Her remains will lie in state at 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Flower bearers will be Mrs. Donna Moss, Mrs. Stephanie Valentine, Ms. May Bigby, Ms. Ada Dukes, Ms. Barbara Garrett and Ms. Beverly Logan.
Pall bearers will be Kirby Wilson, Benjamin Wilson, Troy J. Clark, Jr., Mario A. McBeth, Dwayne Woods and Fred Williams Dover.
The family is at the home of Ms. Nikie Littlejohn, Mountain View Apartments, Apt. No. 163, Mountain View Street, Blacksburg.
