Bond denied for suspect in kidnapping, stabbing case

By TARA JENNINGS Ledger Staff Writer tara@gaffneyledger.com

DAVID MYRICK DAVID MYRICK Bond was denied Tuesday for a Gaffney man accused of stabbing his live-in girlfriend.

Deputy Tim Hill charged David B. Myrick III, 42, of 214 Killion Drive, Gaffney, with kidnapping and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature on Monday.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Victims Advocate Leigh Caldwell asked that Myrick’s bond be denied because of the seriousness of the charge and Myrick’s previous record, she said. The suspect was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Myrick is accused of holding his 44-year-old girlfriend against her will inside the home they share between Friday and Monday. He is accused of hitting the woman several times in her face and stabbing her on her lower left leg with a knife, causing a halfinch laceration. She suffered bruising on both of her eyes and to her mouth, swelling to her head and she lost several teeth, according to authorities.

Myrick has previous domestic violence convictions in Union and Spartanburg counties and has a pending domestic violence charge in each of those counties. Spartanburg County authorities are expected to revoke bond for a pending domestic violence charge there because, they said, Myrick failed to comply with the conditions of his bond.

Myrick claimed the woman assaulted him but he refused to call police.

“She stabbed me in the hand, that’s when I punched her several times because I was fearful for my life,” Myrick said during the bond hearing. “She even cooked dinner for me and I went to work.” Myrick claimed the woman had been using drugs and that he went to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Seventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office Victims Advocate Michelle Clary informed the court Myrick had already made phone calls to the woman while in jail.

A conviction for kidnapping carries a sentence of up to 30 years. A conviction for criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature carries a sentence of up to 10 years.
