‘Chicken Little’ opening delayed at Plaza Theatre
An unexpected film distribution problem with the “Chicken Little” movie has once again led Plaza Twins Theater to delay opening.
Walt Disney, the distributor for “Chicken Little,” informed GE Customs Lab President Gabe Ehrenstein Monday that prior business commitments would prevent the new Gaffney theater from receiving a copy of the movie in time for this weekend.
This has led Plaza Twins Theater to postpone its opening from this weekend until Friday, Feb. 24, Ehrenstein said.
“We want to open with a great movie. The distributor will not be able to provide a copy of the Chicken Little movie until Feb. 24,” Erhenstein said. “As kind of a bonus, though it wasn’t planned this way, we will now be able to show the newest Harry Potter movie the same weekend.”
Plaza Twins Theater has used the extra time for additional cosmetic touches, including repainting the theater floors and installing a new sign at Cherokee Plaza. The theater will open its doors by showing the movies “Chicken Little” and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”
“Chicken Little and Harry Potter are really, really big movies. We are very excited to open with these movies,” Erhenstein said. “We think this is a great location in Gaffney that will provide another entertainment option for residents.”
Plaza Twins is the new movie theater Crenshaw Cinemas is opening inside the recently renovated former Hub Theater in Cherokee Plaza in Gaffney. The theater was originally opened as a Jerry Lewis theater in the mid-1950s.
The Hub Theater ceased operating in 1997. Crenshaw Cinemas in Spartanburg acquired the theater three years ago and has spent the past several months renovating it.
Residents will be able to obtain information on movies and showtimes at Plaza Twins Theater on their new phone number 20MOVIE.
