Woman charged with stabbing roommate

DEANNA PENNINGTON DEANNA PENNINGTON A Gaffney woman was apprehended shortly after she allegedly stabbed a man twice in the leg at approximately 3 a.m., Saturday, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office states.

Deputy Chris Wyatt has charged Deanna Spurlin Pennington, 34, of 215 Jackson St., Gaffney, with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. She remains at the Cherokee County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

A 34-year-old man was transported by ambulance to Upstate Carolina Medical Center after police found him lying on the floor of the home he shared with Pennington, the report states. He has since been transferred to a hospital in Charlotte for treatment by a vascular surgeon.

Deputies spoke with a witness and discovered Pennington was seen walking toward Washington Avenue. Police located her at 116 Washington Ave. She had in her possession the weapon believed used to assault the victim, police said.

Deputies also said both Pennington and the victim were using alcohol and crack cocaine.

A conviction of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Accused of slapping

pregnant woman

A Gaffney man has been arrested after he allegedly slapped a pregnant woman, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.

Officer Jerry Smith has charged John Raleigh Walker III, of 600 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, with 3rd or subsequent offense criminal domestic violence.

Walker is accused of holding the woman down and slapping her with a piece of clothing, leaving visible marks, the report states.

Blacksburg man

faces meth charge

Deputy Trip Hartman arrested a Blacksburg man on a drug charge Saturday.

Joe Barlow Owens, 30, of 633 Peeler Road, is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Hartman had transported Owens to the Cherokee County Detention Center at 8 p.m. after serving him with two outstanding warrants for malicious damage to personal property when the officer discovered Owens had several plastic bags of methamphetamine, according to a police report.
