Joe "JoJo" Dean Kennedy Jr. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, with family by his side.
Mr. Kennedy was a son of Joe Dean Kennedy Sr. and the late Peggy Ann Cooper. He worked in construction and was a Baptist by faith. He is forever loved and will be missed.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Joe D. Kennedy Sr. and Elaine Kennedy; a daughter, Dana Crowder; two sisters, Sandra Kennedy Daly and Kathy Horn; an aunt, Diane Giles; an uncle, Ricky Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kennedy was predeceased by his grandfather, W.F. "Dood" Kennedy.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

BLACKSBURG – Kenneth Loy "Koo-kum" Martin, 50, of 132 Bolton-Parker Road, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at his home.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Betty Irene Gaffney Martin and son of Syble Arlene Sprouse Martin
of Kings Mountain and
the late Herbert Loy
Martin. He was a carpenter and member of Tabernacle of Love, Holiness. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a stepdaughter, Debra Lynn Emory of Gaffney; a daughter and granddaughter; two brothers, Johnny Martin and Tony Martin of Blacksburg; five sisters, Debbie Williams of Blacksburg, Kim Bowen, Joy Vandyke, both of Kings Mountain, Tuttie Pennington of Gaffney and Sonya Thorneburg of Germany; a brotherin law, Richard Layton of Gray Court; a sister-in-law, Marianne Layton of Gray Court; and two step-grandchildren, Michael Thomas Emory and Kristine Alice Love.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Tabernacle of Love, Holiness, conducted by the Revs. Dean Painter, Lucky Earls and Billy Bowen. Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens. Body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Callahan, Ken Pennington, Ricky Pennington, Billy Phillips, Richard Layton, Keith Earls, Tommy Blackwell and Ruben Melton.
The family is at the residence.

CLIFFSIDE – Betty McCraw Thomas, 72, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, in Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late J.Y. and Clara Ruppe McCraw. She was a member of Lavonia Baptist Church and was formerly employed by Cone Mills, Fiber Industries and Peeler's Rug Mill.
In addition to her parents, Mrs Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, William Gordon Thomas.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Judy Thomas of Cliffside; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Eddie Hill of Cliffside; a sister and brother-inlaw, Jenny and Ronnie McAbee; a sister-in-law, Stella Jolley; three granddaughters, Heater Hill-Pavone, Resa Thomas and Holly Thomas; a special nephew, Jason McAbee; a special greatnephew, Judson McAbee; and several other nieces and nephews.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Lavonia Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Robert Lane and Buddy Morehead. Burial will be in Cliffside Cemetery.

BLACKSBURG – Yvonne Marie Harris Ellis, 69, beloved wife and mother, of 309 N. Rutherford St., died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Peachtree Centre.
A native of Cherokee Falls, she was the wife of Marvin Franklin Ellis and daughter of the late Columbus Earl Harris and the late Eva Beattie Harris. She was a retired textile employee and member of Cherokee Falls Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Jim Owens of Blacksburg and Dennis Owens of Gaffney; two step-sons, Kenneth Ellis of Spartanburg and Mark Ellis of Blacksburg; two daughters, Cathy Weeks of Mustang, Okla., and Jane Rackley of Charlotte, N.C.; two step-daughters, Gwenn Gilliam and Tina Ellis, both of Blacksburg; four brothers, Winfred Harris of Conway, Hal Harris of Gaffney, David Harris of Chesnee and Whitey Harris of Blacksburg; four sisters, JoAnn Harrison of Blacksburg, Evelyn Peterson and Mary Jane Johnson, both of Gaffney, and Francis Mullinax of Spartanburg; 10 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by three brothers, Runt Harris, Arnold Dean Harris and Howard Harris, and a sister, Dot Harris.
Services will be held today at 4 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Rev. James Price. Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Cassatt, Dennis Owens Jr., Craig Rackley, Timothy Ellis, Johnny Gilliam and Joshua Treadway.

Houey, 35, of 14 Chester Ave. Irvington, N.J., husband of Dochi Bassey Houey, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at New Life Community Bible Way Church, 323 Sibley St., in the Una community of Spartanburg, with Elder Cathaye Jones officiating. Cathy M. Sims, 48, of 406 Elm St., widow of Michael Dean Robinson Sr., died Friday morning, Feb. 17, 2006, at her residence.
Daughter of Betty Jo Wilson Stevenson of Gaffney and the late Carl Lee Sims, she was a native of Cherokee County and member of First Antioch Interdenominational Church of Gastonia, N.C.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Woods of the home; two sons, Michael Robinson and Heanon Robinson of Gaffney; four sisters, Teressa Young of Gastonia, Sandra Martin, Jo Ann Hughes, both of Gaffney, and Debra Matthews of Cowpens; two brothers, Gary Sims and Kenny Sims; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Michael A. Bridges, Bishop Oscar Gardin and the Revs. Mills McHam, Wilbert Jamison and Alan Taylor. Burial will be in Green Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Body will lie in state until the hour of the service.

ROCK HILL – James Floyd Price Sr., 75, of 1505 Estes Drive, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, in Piedmont Medical Center.
A native of Arcadia, he was the son of the late Floyd Thomas Price and the late Fannie Obelia Randolph Price, a veteran, he was retired from Rock Hill Printing and

years of service. He
was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion Post No. 34. He attended Woodhaven Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Ann McCullough Price; two sons, James Floyd Price Jr. and Thomas Benjamin Price, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Harriet Price Leazer of Fort Lawn and Cynthia Price Douglas of Rock Hill; a brother, Joe Dean Price Sr. of Rock Hill; two sisters, Pauline Price Harper and Genell Price Turner, both of Rock Hill and seven grandchildren.

TAMASSEE – Sullivan Floyd "Bo" Blanton, 66, husband of Shirley Alverson Blanton, of 332 Kimberly Lane, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, in Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Blacksburg, Mr. Blanton was the son of the late Naize B. and Rhea Ola Byars. He was a retired
employee of Duke Power Company, a
U.S. Navy veteran
and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Blacksburg.
Also surviving are two sons, Anthony Charles Blanton and Naize Buford Blanton of Blacksburg; two daughters, Danna Ann Blanton of Blacksburg and Dana Reece of Belton; two brothers, Claude Allen Blanton and Larry Wayne Blanton, both of Blacksburg; three sisters, Jewel Wilt of Pennsylvania, Dovie Lena Hartness of Colorado and Cherry Spencer of Blacksburg; eight grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Blanton was preceded in death by two sons, Floyd Allen Blanton and Perry Smith; two brothers, Howard Byars and Tommy Blanton; and a sister, Regina Carroll.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
