They want a skateboard park, not a surfboard park
Dear Editor:
My son is a diehard skateboarder. He skates in Gaffney where he can when he can.
Gaffney very much needs a skate park. You would not believe how many skateboarders there are in Cherokee County. The only thing the county parks department has for kids are the ball fields and swings. I’m sorry but teenagers don’t want to swing on jungle gyms.
This is the first county I’ve seen that totally ignores the people in the county. They need to remember these kids will soon be voting age and as far as the article in The Ledger about the skateboard proposal city council is considering, I think the council misunderstood what the kids want. They want a skate park, not a surfboard park. Why in the world if your having problems with flooding would you move the swings and slides and pour concrete so that all you will have is a lake?
It’s kind of hard to skate on water. I guess the kids can just take the wheels off and surf the park.

Has high praise for Peachtree Centre
Dear Editor:
All too often we get really upset and critical over an isolated unpleasant incident that may occur at a nursing facility but we fail to give credit for all the hours upon hours of good that are done. This letter is to address such an issue.
My mother, Nell Ramsey, lived at Peachtree Centre for the past three or so years of her life. She was basically treated like a baby and was loved like family. All of the staff did everything they could to make her stay there as much like home as possible.
I visited my mother often, at different times of the day and evening and I never heard or saw anything being said or done that was unkind to any of the residents, even if they never had family members who came to visit. I did hear many of the nurses talking sweet and being upset with worry because a resident was sick. I saw many employees who cared about the people who lived there.
When the nursing assistants were moved to other floors, they would be so attached to the residents they would come back to see them on their own time. If one of the residents passed away, it would break their hearts. They would even come on their days off and visit some of those whose families never came to see them. It is very obvious the workers love the residents at this home.
The rehab center is wonderful. They work so hard and seem to care so deeply about everyone they serve. The rehab hall stays full pretty much all the time, so that should say something for them. Now we don’t have to go out of town to get help in a rehab nursing facility.
I was always treated with kindness and understanding. They went out of their way to answer any questions or concerns I might have. If I needed anything, they would drop what they were doing to help me.
Accidents and unpleasant things are going to happen every now and then when that many people are together. We should remember that all the good they do far outweighs an occasional bad.
Peachtree Centre is owned and operated by Cherokee County and we should be proud of that.
I would like to thank everyone at the Peachtree Centre for all they did for my mother and our family during her time with them. I truly believe that she couldn’t have been in a better facility.
Sincerely, Kay R. Wylie
