WHAT’S UP Notices ¦ The Cherokee County Center for Advocacy and Change and the Bethel Senior Day Care Center Inc. are hosting a public forum Monday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. Local elected officials will be invited to attend and a viewing of the 20/20 report, "Stupid in America," will be held. This forum will offer an opportunity to speak with local legislators and engaged in dialogue regarding parental choice. Public invited. ¦ The County Republican Convention will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cherokee County Court House. Ralph Norman and Park Gillespie, U.S. House candidates, are scheduled to attend. Public invited. ¦ The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs will make its monthly visit to Gaffney on Thursday, Feb. 23. Department staff will be available to take complaints from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Cherokee County Public Library, 300 E. Rutledge Ave. Consumers who have a problem with a business should come and bring documentation with them regarding their particular situation. ¦ The Bethel Senior Day Day Center, 218 Dr. L.M. Rosemond Lane, will host a diabetic shoe clinic Friday, Feb. 24, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for persons covered by Medicare Part B or Medicaid. Church news ¦ Central Baptist Church, 500 E. Montgomery St., will have a special service Sunday, Feb. 26, at 5 p.m. Guest singers will be The Songsters from Gastonia. The Songsters were organized in 1995 and have sung continuously since then. They sing songs and hymns Southern Gospel style and enjoy singing traditional gospel music and hymn arrangements. All of the members have had many years experience singing and playing in the Southern Gospel music field. They have appeared with such artists as the Kingsmen Quartet, the Chuck Wagon Gang, the Florida Boys, the Nelons, the Crabb Family, the Reggie Saddler Family, the Pine Ridge Boys and others. The pastor, Rev. Alan Peeler, invites all to attend this special service. ¦ The Bridges Family will celebrate their fifth anniversary on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, 915 Concord Road. ¦ Squire Parsons will present a concert Sunday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at New Pleasant Baptist Church, 242 New Pleasant Road. ¦ Shalom Christian Fellowship Church in Gaffney will celebrate Black History Month on Sunday, Feb. 26, with a cultural worship service with the Rev. Ray Mims and Bellview Baptist Church of Woodruff. The choirs of Bellview Baptist Church and Shalom Christian Fellowship will combine to render the music. The public is invited. ¦ The Deacon Board of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor its annual Deacon’s Program on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 4 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. J.W. Hester, pastor of Bible Way Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, Greenville. Reflections will be made by Deacon James Camp Sr. Public invited. Fund raisers ¦ Blacksburg A.R.P. Church, 108 S. Chester St., will have a fund raising yard sale on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. to raise money for a youth trip to Bonclarken. Free coffee will be served and sausage biscuits can be purchased for $1 and jelly biscuits for 50 cents. Support groups ¦ AA meetings are held in Gaffney on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights at 8 p.m. on Carlisle Street in the building behind Limestone Methodist Church.
