Szafron will play Limestone’s historic Aeolian-Skinner organ
Brennan Szafron, organist and choirmaster of the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg, will present a special organ recital on Sunday, March 12, at 3 p.m. in Fullerton Auditorium at Limestone College.
Sponsored by Limestone’s Music Department, the event is part of yearlong celebration of the newly renovated Aeolian-Skinner organ, built 60 years ago by the same man who constructed the Mormon Tabernacle organ.
Repairs to the Limestone organ began last year and cost the college approximately $150,000. The recital, and the reception to follow in the auditorium lobby, will also serve to honor the donors who contributed to the renovation.
Szafron has been with the Episcopal Church of the Advent since 2003. Before moving to Spartanburg, he was the assistant organist of Christ Episcopal Church in Grosse Pointe, Mich. He received a Doctor of Musical Arts in organ performance from the University of Michigan and also holds a Master of Music degree from Yale University.
Szafron is recipient of numerous awards. He was the third prize winner of the 1997 Royal Canadian College of Organists National Competition and the 1998 receipient of the RCCO John Gross Memorial Scholarship for advanced organ study outside of Canada.
The concert is free and open to the public.
