Junior striker Kristi Caldwell scored three goals to lead the Gaffney girls’ soccer team to a 3-2 win over Broome.

On Friday, Boiling Springs blanked the Lady Indians, 5-0.

Limestone’s Shawn Poppie and Marquintus Jones were named to the CVAC all-conference team.

Poppie, a junior, was named to the second team after scoring in double figures in 21 of 28 games. He’s also the team’s leading rebounder.

Jones led the Saints in scoring and finished his career with 1,230 points.

Limestone’s Melissa DeVore and Monica Adams were named to the CVAC all-conference team.

DeVore, a senior, was named to the second team after leading the Lady Saints in scoring.

Adams, a sophomore, was an honorable mention selection. She recorded 10 double-doubles this season.

The Limestone men’s tennis team bounced back from a loss to No. 26 Augusta State last Thursday to down Tusculum, 6-3.

The Cherokee County Gamecock Club will be holding its annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on April 22 at the Gaffney Country Club. The cost per four-man team is $200. The tournament is captain’s choice. All net proceeds will go to fund scholarships for students of Cherokee County who attend the University of South Carolina or one of its statewide branches. The Cherokee County Gamecock Club has given out over $30,000 in scholarships in the last 7 years.

The No. 5-ranked Limestone women’s lacrosse team hosts topranked StonehillCollege today at 3:30 p.m.

The Skyhawks are led by threetime All-American Erin Acone.

Blacksburg’s Rodney Poston and Tyler Otey will join Gaffney’s Julius Wilkerson on the East All-Stars for Saturday’s Spartanburg Tip-Off Club all-star game. Blacksburg’s Kelle Deal and Sheria Vernon were named to the East All-Stars.

NFL labor negotiations took yet another surprising turn late Sunday when the league and union agreed to postpone free agency another 72 hours, giving the sides more time to try to reach agreement on an extension to their contract.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the delay would give owners a chance to consider the union’s latest proposal during a meeting Tuesday in Dallas.
