Treats for Palmetto's Finest

Dear Editor:

Since recently being named "Palmetto's Finest" Gaffney High School has been blessed with an outpouring of congratulations and good wishes. This past Friday our student body of more than 2,100 students was rewarded for their efforts with ice cream treats provided, in part, by our local Wal Mart and Pet Dairy Company.

On the warm, spring day ice cream was especially good. It is heartwarming to know that our local businesses recognize our success. Gaffney High School says thank you very much to Wal Mart and Pet Dairy for the wonderful treats.

Sincerely,

GHS Faculty, Staff and Student Body

Agrees with WAGI opinion

Dear Editor:

I am writing you in response to Mr. Black's letter in regards to WEAC-WAGI. As a native of Gaffney, I agree with him wholeheartedly. WAGI is an institution in Gaffney and should be considered a part of our heritage and history. I hope that CHAPS will embrace WAGI to see if they can get it on the SC Historical Register.

Regardless, the people of Gaffney truly need to be heard. Please do not sit by and be the "silent majority." We need to do everything possible to fight to keep this institution. I fondly remember as a child talking on the radio and have done so since. I LOVE Swap and Shop and Carolina in the Morning.

From a business perspective, I know the station is profitable and I cannot imagine that a proforma on moving the station to Charlotte would significantly increase the profit margin. I believe there was a reason that the Parkers turned down the many offers to purchase the station. They wanted it to remain in Gaffney and retain the same family format.

When I started my real estate company, I ran into Mr. (Raymond) Parker and we were discussing people who said I would not make it a year. He encouraged me by saying when he started, someone told him that he would not make it a year and he just laughed his wonderful laugh and told me to take the comments I heard as a vote of confidence.

Mr. and Mrs. Parker worked long and hard to make their stations reflect their life as Christians.

Can The Ledger help us in knowing who to call?
