Upstate Carolina Medical Center will be the location for the newly formed Multiple Sclerosis self help group on Monday, April 10, from 6-7 p.m. in the hospital's classroom. For information, call the hospital's director of cardiopulmonary services, Shannon Wylie, 487-1586.

Staff members from the S.C. Department of Consumer Affairs will be in Gaffney on Thursday, March 23, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Cherokee County Public Library, 300 E. Rutledge Ave. Consumers who have problems with a business should come and bring documentation with them regarding their particular situation.

Spartanburg Area Mental Heath Center will offer its next parenting classes beginning on March 30 and continuing for six consecutive weeks on Thursdays from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center, 250 Dewey Ave., Spartanburg. To enroll, call 864-585-0366, ext. 327.

A workshop for parents of children with special needs and anyone interested in educating them, will be held on Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Gaffney library, 300 E. Rutledge Ave. This workshop is presented by Proparents of S.C. Call 1-800759-4776 to register. The workshop is free and open to the public.

Classes

Upstate Carolina Medical Center offers a free childbirth class the second Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. The class is open to women and couples who are pregnant or considering pregnancy. It is designed to prepare them for the birthing experience. It is especially useful for women who are between their 28 to 36 weeks of pregnancy and plan to deliver at Upstate Carolina. In addition to a tour of the hospital's Women's Center, the participants receive a free tote bag of baby goodies and lots of related information. For more information or to sign up to attend the next class, which will be Tuesday, April 11, call the Women's Center at 487-1588.

Meetings

Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. All Post and Auxiliary members are urged to attend.

Fund raisers

The Gaffney Fire Department will have a fund raising barbecue for firefighter Josh Rogers, who is undergoing treatments for cancer. Firefighters will be selling whole barbecue Boston butts as well as barbecue plates. The price for a whole butt is $35 and includes slaw and barbecue sauce. Plates will be $6.50 in advance and $7 at the door and include baked beans, slaw and a roll. Deadline to purchase tickets for a whole butt is March 24. Eat-in or pick-up times will be from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, at the Gaffney Fire Department at 205 N. Limestone St. Tickets may be purchased from any Gaffney firefighter or by calling the Gaffney Fire Department, 487-8516.

Church events

Harris Baptist Church will have a singing Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m. featuring the Servants Quartet of Union Mills, N.C., and The Hamptons of Gaffney.

Rev. Michael L. Golden and the Limestone Missionary Baptist Church family invite the public to attend worship services Sunday, March 26, beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday School will not be held.

A seventh pastoral appreciation service will be held March 23-26 for Harold and Caroline Jones at Way of Life Praise and Worship Center. Pastor Waters of First Baptist Church, Roebuck, will speak Thursday at 7 p.m. Friday at 7 p.m., a special program will feature recording artist Angie Marie, the Suck Creek mime team, dancers from Way of Life PWC and Piney Grove praise dancers. Saturday a program honoring Caroline Jones will be held at 11 a.m. with guest speaker Gloria Smith of Spartanburg and Sunday at 3:30 p.m.. Shirley Henderson of the Family Worship Center, Raleigh, N.C., will be the guest speaker.

Brother Phillip J. Buckson has been called to preach God's word. His initial sermon will be on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Public invited.

Revival services will be held March 26-29 at Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m., the Rev. Eugene Pryor of White Oak Springs, Ellenboro, N.C. will be the guest speaker. Speakers the remainder of the week at 7 p.m. will be: Monday, Rev. Johnny Leggett of Monroe, Ga.; Tuesday, Rev. Les Howard, Galilee Baptist Church, Blacksburg; and Wednesday, Rev. Roger Mason, New Mt. Zion, Gaffney.
