County pursues grant for water line
Public water will likely soon be coming to the 99 Island Road area of the county.
Cherokee County Council on Monday voted unanimously to apply for a Department of Commerce Community Development Block Grant to supply water to 70 households on 99 Island Road, county finance director Mike Vassey said.
The project will be an extension of the Old Chester Road water project.
Vassey said the project is needed since contaminants have been detected in some of the drinking wells in the area
The county has until April 10 to submit the application. If approved, the county would commit $50,000 to the project. The remainder of the money would come from the state.
