Hospital volunteers offer two scholarships

The volunteers at Upstate Carolina Medical Center are offering two college scholarships this year, both worth $1,000 each.

The first scholarship is open to any Cherokee County resident who is pursuing a career in healthcare. It is also open to the children of hospital employees, regardless of where they reside.

The second scholarship is available to the children of hospital employees, regardless of their course of study.

Both scholarships require 500-word essays on the student's career goals. Additional requirements include three of recommendation, financial need documentation, most up-to-date transcriptions, and a completed application, which is available at the hospital's information desk or calling 487-1515.

The deadline to apply either scholarship is May 2006. The winners will announced on June 1, 2006.

Financial need is granted special considerations. However, the volunteers reserve the right to award the scholarships the applicants' unique merits.
