Vic Foster Received Silver Star and Purple Heart in WWII FLORENCE - Samuel Victor Vic Foster, born May 13, 1921, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in Carolinas Hospital System after an illness. He was born in Gaffney, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam John Foster. He graduated from Gaffney High School and Clemson University prior to serving in the 100th division in World War II in France, earning the Silver Star and Purple Heart for bravery. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Florence and also gave support to Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church. He retired from commercial insurance sales with American Hardware Mutual after receiving many awards for service excellence during his 38-year career, serving in Birmingham, Ala., Greenville and Florence, where he had lived for 64 years. His greatest joys were fishing with his grandchildren at Wateree and delivering fresh fruit and vegetable gifts to his friends. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eleanor Foster of Florence; two daughters, Beth (Ed) Robinson of Florence and Kris (Robert) Shouldice of Midlothian, Va.; two grandsons, Scott (Tara) Robinson and Brett (Heather) Robinson, both of Alabama; two granddaughters, Leigh (Michael) Hibler of Baltimore and Karen (Peter) Simon of Germany; three great-grandchildren, Noah and Jordan Simon and Mattox Hibler; a brother, John William Bill Foster; and two nephews, John and Lee. The family is at the home of the Robinsons, 1810 S. Brandon Drive, Florence. Friends will be received from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
