Saints top Crusaders; travel to Barton this weekend

The Limestone Saints snapped a 4-4 tie with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Belmont Abbey in a non-conference game at Prevatte Field on Wednesday.

Former reliever Josh Cochran started and picked up the win to improve to 2-1.

Catcher David Wise had a home run and three RBIs while Rob Bouknight had two RBIs and Paul Pesca and Daniel Lydon both knocked in runs.

Joey Asis went 3 for 4 and scored two runs for the Saints.

The Crusaders reached Cochran for two runs in the third but the Saints answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Belmont Abbey tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before Limestone exploded for four runs in the seventh to seal the win.

David Rue got the loss for Belmont Abbey. Seth Waller was 2 for 3, with two RBIs and a home run while Ryan Ronada also had a RBI for the Crusaders.

Both teams left six runners on base.

Limestone lost an 11-10 heartbreaker to Presbyterian College on Thursday.

The loss drops the Saints to 15-19 overall. Presbyterian improves to 12-29.

The Saints travel to Barton for a key conference series this weekend.

Limestone and Barton will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with the series finale slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. Barton is in first place in the CVAC.
