Gaffney keeps rolling

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

Julie Sarratt is piling up the innings and wins for the Gaffney High softball team.

Pitching her fourth game this week, Sarratt tossed a one-hitter and struck out 10 in the Lady Indians' 10-0 win over Northwestern on Wednesday.

She allowed just three hits and struck out seven in the Lady Indians' 1-0 win over Boiling Springs on Wednesday.

"To strike out 10 on her fourth day of work this week is amazing," Gaffney coach Kelly Ellis said.

Gaffney scored one run in the first and added two more in the second and third innings before putting the game out of reach with four runs in the fourth against Northwestern.

Laura Kies, Rachel Avelar and Hayden Kidd each had two hits for the Lady Indians.

Sarratt had the RBI in the first and Rachel Avelar had the big hit in the third inning.

Kidd and Morgan Hughey had the RBIs in the Lady Indians' four-run fourth inning.

Gaffney improves to 13-2 overall and 8-0 in the region.

The Lady Indians had to work overtime to avenge an early season loss to Boiling Springs. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the eighth when Keri Sarratt singled, advanced to second and scored on a error by the Boiling Springs first baseman, who dropped a throw.

"It was a very big win for us," Ellis said.

Kies and Kidd had the other hits for Gaffney, which travels to Rock Hill on Monday.
