Trucker drowns

in Lake Marion

SANTEE - A Santee man has drowned after his tractortrailer ran off Interstate 95 and plunged into Lake Marion.

The truck driver was James Edwards Williams, 37, said Clarendon County Coroner Hayes F. Samuels Jr.

Williams was driving the rig loaded with plywood north on I-95 about 3:45 a.m. when he tried to change lanes and lost control, said Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bryan McDougald.

Woman dies

while snorkeling

KEY LARGO, Fla. - A South Carolina woman died Thursday while snorkeling in waters off the Florida Keys, authorities said.

The 50-year-old woman, who was not immediately identified, was on a snorkeling trip in the waters off Key Largo when she began having trouble in the water, said Becky Herrin of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The vessel's captain and first mate helped the woman aboard, where she was having difficulty breathing and was given oxygen and later CPR,
