An aviation board has delayed a decision whether to approve the county's feasibility study application regarding a local airport.

"They are holding off on the application," Cherokee County Councilman Bailey Humphries said.

The Aeronautics Administration met Friday to review the application.

Cherokee County Council will hear an update on the agency's action from Vic Sarratt, who attended the Aeronautics Administration session.

County council agreed in January to sponsor the federal study, which will determine if a landing strip here is needed.

The study would identify potential users, analyze market needs and identify findings, including runway length and width and terminal size.

If approved, the study would be completed within 90 days.

If the findings support the construction of an airport, the state will pay the lion's share of the $25,000 study. The county would pay $2,500.

There will be no charge for the study if it's determined a landing strip isn't feasible.

Cherokee is the only county in the state without an airport.
