Downtown revitalization also a priority for the city
Gaffney Mayor Henry Jolly said he's hoping Gaffney City Council's action at its planning workshop last weekend will kick-start the city's downtown revitalization efforts.
Jolly said council agreed to instruct administrator James Taylor to begin negotiations with Mayor's Institute and Design Arts Partnership and Clemson University to design a master plan for the city's downtown. He said the city would schedule hearings to seek the public's input into the master plan.
Jolly said he wants the plan to include upgrades to the downtown buildings' facades, additional parking and ideas to attract more commercial projects to the city's downtown.
The master plan will likely cost about $25,000, he said.
"I think we can pay for it out of the hospitality tax, but it's something we need to do," he said.
