The Spartanburg-Cherokee County Gamecock Club Spring Banquet is scheduled for Thursday May 11, at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium

The dinner will begin at 5:30, with the program to begin at 7.

Guest speakers will be coach Steve Spurrier, coach Dave Odom and administrative staff.

Ticket cost is $20 per dinner. Tickets for all ages and must be purchased by April 27.

Tickets for the event can be picked up at the Sub Station, Harold Restaurant, Dr. Hank Jolly's office, Chamber of Commerce or by calling Mike Phillips at 488-3730, Ed Poole 489-8746 or Randy Hammett 4893839.

Jordan Ruppe homered to lead A&E Engineering to an 11-10 victory in Mite League play.

In another Mite League contest, Landon Batchler had two homers and Josh Blackwell also homered to lead the Burger King Red Sox to a 24-6 win over Farm Bureau.

Jack Masters doubled and tripled

for the winners.

Clemson head football coach Tommy Bowden and new assistant basketball coach Shaka Smart will speak at the Spartanburg Clemson Club annual spring meeting. The event will be Thursday, April 20, in the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium on Church Street in Spartanburg.

The social is at 5:45 p.m. followed by a dinner at 6:15 p.m. The dinner is catered by Midway BBQ.

The cost is $15 for adult/club members. Tickets are $20 for nonmembers and $6 for children 12 and under. For tickets and reservations contact David Parker at 489-3141 (office) or 489-6338 (home).

The Limestone women's lacrosse team clinched the conference title with an 11-10 win over Pfeiffer on Saturday.

Kristen Black had four goals to lead the Lady Saints, who improve to 9-1 in the conference.

Gamecock Club

to hold tourney

The Cherokee County Gamecock Club will be holding their annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on April 22 at the Gaffney Country Club. The cost per four-man team is $200. The tournament is captain's choice. All net proceeds will go to fund scholarships for students of Cherokee County who attend the University of South Carolina or one of its statewide branches.

First place high gross and high net scores will receive $200 per team. Prizes will also be given to the runners-up.

Mite League game

The 2006 Henry Transou Memorial Tournament will be held Saturday, April 29, at Cherokee National Golf Club.

The format will be four-man captain's choice with first place for low net and low gross. Men 55 to 69 will play the gold tees. Men 70 and over and ladies will play the red tees. The field is limited to the first 34 teams. The cost of $240 per team includes cart fees, range balls, one red tee and one mulligan per player.

A barbecue dinner catered by Daddy Joe's will be held after play is complete. The awards presentation, remarks from Transou's family members and drawings for special prizes will be held during the dinner.
