Gaffney golfers finish 10th at prestigious Hardaway tournament The Gaffney golf team proved at the Hardaway Classic it can compete with the top teams in the Southeast. Josh Gallman and Matthew Hopper each shot 73-73 146 to lead the Indians to a solid 10th place showing in the 49-team field. Gaffney, which had the highest finish among South Carolina teams, shot a 299-311 610, at the two-day event. North View of Georgia captured the title with a 584, six shots better than second place Centennial. Gallman and Hopper finished tied for 11th in the individual competition. "Josh shot his average," Gaffney coach Mark Ireton said. "Matthew did a good job. I was very proud of him. If he could have putted better, his score would have been better." Gaffney's Jody Martin had a 77-79 156. Brandon Coggins posted a 76-86 162 to round out the Indians' scoring. "As a team right now, we are just trying to improve," Ireton said. "We need to work on some stuff so we can peak in time for the region and state tournaments." Gaffney will host Fort Mill and York at Cherokee National today. |
