Trojans spoil Senior Day
Saints' reliever Tyler Anderson delivers a pitch against Mount Olive on Saturday. Limestone catcher David Wise had a memorable Senior Day but it wasn't enough as Mount Olive beat the Saints, 14-10, in the rubber game of the threegame series on Saturday.
Wise hit a three-run homer to put the Saints up 3-1 in the first inning. He added another homer in the seventh.
But Mount Olive would supply plenty of offense of its own, scoring in every inning but the seventh and ninth.
Jesse Lancaster got the win for the Trojans, who improve to 15-9 in the CVAC. The Saints are 13-11 in conference play.
The teams split a doubleheader on Friday as Ryan Staatz allowed just five spoil Senior Day
hits in seven innings as the Trojans won the nightcap, 2-1. The Saints rallied from three runs down in the ninth for a dramatic 6-5 victory.
Joey Asis started the game-winning rally with a single. After Paul Pesca was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second, B.J. Bowling had a ground-double double to score pinch runner Josh Izokovic.
Daniel Lydon was then hit by a pitch before Rob Bouknight delivered a sacrifice fly.
Taylor Cook ended the game with a 2run single.
Josh Cochran, who pitched the ninth, got the win. Limestone ace Kevin Pucetas allowed seven hits over 6.1 innings.
The Saints will travel to Tusculum today for a non-conference matchup.
