Cowpens National Battlefield celebrates National Park Week In conjunction with the theme of National Park Week which was celebrated April 22-30, "Connecting Our Children to America's National Parks," Cowpens National Battlefield has announced that a new Scout patch trail test as been posted on its website. Information on the Boy/Girl Scout trail patch can be found at www.nps.gov/ cowp/ScoutPatch.htm. Cowpens National Battlefield Historic Trail Award was developed in the early 1990s for all organized scouting groups to help enhance their visit to the park and to encourage them to learn more about the challenges and hardships faced by our forefathers in gaining our independence from the British in the American Revolution. In January, the park installed new wayside exhibits which did not contain the answers to the test questions. The Visitor Center also underwent major renovations, including all new exhibits in the museum. Boy/Explorer/Girl Scouts have separate tests and requirements than Cub/Brownie Scouts. Scouts can find answers to the new test incorporated in the new Visitor Center and battlefield trail exhibits. Cowpens National Battlefield is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Visitors wishing to walk or bicycle after park hours may access the park from the new parking lot and trial east of the battlefield at the intersection of Hwy. 11 and Hayes Road. Besides protecting the site of the important Revolutionary War battle, the 842-acre park has guided battlefield walks on weekends, a picnic area, nature trial, wildlife viewing, and the 1828 Robert Scruggs house.
