Developed night vision

John Andrew Leslie, 70, of 159 Foggy Bottom Road, Blacksburg, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at his home.

A native of St. Charles, Ill., he was a loving husband to the late Evelyn Ramsey Leslie for 42 years. He was the son of the late Edward A. and Lillian Eckerhov Leslie.

He was a veteran

of the U.S. Army and

was a physicist with the U.S. government. During his tenure with the U.S. government, he was instrumental in developing the technology known as "night vision." He was a graduate of George Washington University and attended Duke University. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening.

Survivors are a brother, Edward Leslie and wife, Jean, of Alexandria, Va.; brother-inlaw and sister-in-law, James and Shirley Allen of Grover, N.C.; nieces, Christiana Leslie and Mariana Leslie, both of Alexandria, and Tracy Kiser of Grover N.C.; and greatniece, Kim Messer and family, of the home.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Lester Leslie.

Arrangements are incomplete. The family will be at the residence.
