Meetings

The Cherokee County Alzheimer's Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting today, May 10, at noon in the private dining room at Ryan's Steakhouse. The group will be discussing sponsorships and events surrounding the Memory Walk in October. The Cherokee County Alzheimer's Association meets regularly on the second Wednesday of each month. Anyone interested in volunteering may contact the Cherokee County chairman, Jonna Turner, at 488-8203.

The Class of 1966 will have dutch treat meetings on Monday, May 15, and Monday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Daddy Joe's. All members are asked to come and help plan the class reunion that will be October 6-7.

Support groups

Magnolias of Gaffney, 223 Tiffany Park, will be facilitating the Cherokee County Alzheimer's Support Group every second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The support group meetings will start on May 11.

Community events

The Gaffney Lions Club will offer free health screenings today, May 10, from 1-4 p.m. and Thursday, May 11, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in front of Wal-Mart on Baker Boulevard. Included will be blood pressure checks, glaucoma checks and diabetes screenings.

Church events

Shady Grove Baptist Church, 712 Green River Road, will have its annual Mother's Day program Sunday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Antoinette Gardner, associate minister of Gowdeysville Baptist Church, will be the speaker. The Deaconess, Trustees and Ministers' Wives will be in charge of the service. All mothers will be recognized along with the church's oldest mother in attendance, mother with the most children present in Sunday School, mother with the most children present during morning worship and the mother who has traveled the greatest distance to church.

Fund raisers

A yard sale, car wash, bake sale and hot dog sale will be held Saturday, May 13,

from 7 a.m. until at Blacksburg Church of God, 607 W. Cherokee St.

Notices

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will be held Thursday, May 18, from 5:30-7 p.m. at Joe Gibson's Suzuki, 630 Hampshire Drive. Chamber members and guests are invited.
