Couple honored for service to college
Dr. Preston Edwards is presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service from Limestone College at graduation ceremonies Friday, May 5. Dr. Preston Edwards and his wife Faye Edwards each received Honorary Doctorates of Public Service at the Limestone College Spring Commencement ceremony, Friday, May 5 in Fullerton Auditorium. Both Dr. and Mrs. Edwards were honored for their 50-plus years of service to Limestone College and the citizens of Cherokee County.
A graduate of Furman University and the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Edwards has been a general practitioner of family medicine in Gaffney since 1947. He is a member of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame, a Life Deacon at First Baptist Church of Gaffney, and a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Dr. Edwards is a past member of the Board of Trustees of North Greenville College (1969-1973) and the Board of Trustees of South Carolina Baptist Medical Center (1980-1991). He served on the Limestone College Board of Trustees from 1964 until 1981.
Mrs. Edwards is a member of the Class of 1951 and a Life member of the Limestone College Board of Trustees. She was instrumental in the formation of the Beautification and Preservation Committee and is past recipient of the Limestone Alumni Association's Service to College Award. Mrs. Edwards has been an active member of the American Association of University Women for over 25 years. She was also a member of the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School Board of Trustees and the South Carolina Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Coordinating Council.
Both Dr. and Mrs. Edwards have been honored for philanthropy in Cherokee County by the Piedmont Chapter of the National Society of Fundraising Executives and were Limestone's Philanthropists of the Year in 1994. As Limestone Trustees, for which they have 32 years of combined experience, they have both served the College on presidential search committees and chaired development committees.
Married 55 years, they are the parents of three adult children; Cathy, Charles, and Paul.
