BLACKSBURG - Gene (Sweet Pea) Peterson, 56, of 147 Woody Road, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A native of Blacksburg, he was the husband of Gwen Dawkins Peterson of Saluda and son of the late Harvey Peterson and the late Maggie Dover Peterson. He was a skitter driver for a logging company and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a special friend, Barbara Smith of the home; three daughters, Brandy Reyes of Greenwood, Kimberly Stone of Saluda and Sherry Gibson of Shelby; two brothers, Harvey Lee Peterson and Louis Peterson of Blacksburg; a sister, Linda Johnson of Shelby; and seven grandchildren, Eddie, Sophia, Cody, Jeremy, Scott, Dillon and Alyssa.

Services will be held today at 4 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Archie Brown and Bruce Harry. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 3-4 p.m.

Family members are at their respective homes.
