Funding denied Dear Editor: I see that once again Cherokee County Council has denied funding to two groups, the Literacy Association and the historical society. Both of these groups help to improve the quality of life in Cherokee County - one to educate the citizens and the other to preserve the history. Literacy means (for county council's benefit) the ability to read. Almost one-fourth of Cherokee County's residents are illiterate. The historical society is making great progress on a history museum without support from council. Cherokee County claims that it is interested in promoting tourism but this says otherwise. Isn't this just politics as usual in Cherokee County? Elaine Bennett Blacksburg, SC |
