Fund raisers
The Blacksburg Rotary Club will have a barbecue Saturday, May 20, beginning at 11 a.m and continuing until sold out. Food will be sold at two locations - Blacksburg Primary School, 1010 E. Cherokee St., and the Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., Gaffney. Plates are $6 and include pork barbecue with all the trimmings.
The Gaffney Senior Center will have a craft sale on Friday, May 19, from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Items available will be tote bags, baby items, costume jewelry (marked down), pocketbooks and much more. The Senior Center is located at 499 W. Rutledge Ave. Call Joan Wood, 487-2725, for more information. Proceeds from the sale goes to provide services to senior adults in Cherokee County.
The Village School will have its annual yard sale and bake sale on Saturday, May 20, from 7-11 a.m. in the parking lot of First Baptist Church, corner of Floyd Baker Boulevard and Limestone Street. Fifty-plus families will be participating. Rain date is May 27, same place, same time. No early birds, please.
Special events
Sacred Heart Church will host "Theology Latte" on Tuesday May 23, at noon. Anyone interested is invited to participate in a series beginning on Scripture that will look at translations, different versions and the story of the Bible. The dutch treat meeting will be held at the House of Pizza. Denomination is not important. For more information, call Sacred Heart, 489-9453.
The Christian Coalition Candidate Breakfast will be held Saturday, May 20, at 8:30 a.m. at Ryan's on Floyd Baker Boulevard. The Christian Coalition invites candidates, elected officials and their guests to attend. Visitors are welcome.
The Gaffney Senior Center and Upstate Carolina Medical Center are sponsoring a Health Fair on Friday, May 19, from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave. Booths will be set up by local doctors, Total Care, Hospice Care of S.C., Alzheimer's Association, Interim Healthcare, Shelby Eye Clinic and others. There will be demonstrations on knitting, crocheting and polymer clay. Italian charms and crafts will also be for sale. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served. Meetings
Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies' Auxiliary will have its monthly meeting Tuesday, May 23, at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. All Post and Auxiliary members are urged to attend.
Church events
Suzette Corry will preach her initial sermon on Saturday, May 20, at 6p.m. at Limestone Missionary Baptist Church.
Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will have its third Saturday night gospel singing May 20 at 7 p.m. Guests will be The Masters, Cross Reference and The Hamptons.
