Fund raisers

The Blacksburg Rotary Club will have a barbecue Saturday, May 20, beginning at 11 a.m and continuing until sold out. Food will be sold at two locations - Blacksburg Primary School, 1010 E. Cherokee St., and the Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., Gaffney. Plates are $6 and include pork barbecue with all the trimmings.

The Village School will have its annual yard sale and bake sale Saturday, May 20, from 7-11 a.m. in the parking lot of First Baptist Church. Fifty-plus families will be participating. Rain date is May 27, same place, same time.

Special events

There will be a blood drive Monday, May 22, at the Sheriff's Office from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m All donations will be applied to Joel Hill who will undergo chemo for a period of six months and may need palettes during that time. There will also be representatives available from the American Cancer Society and from the National Marrow Donor program.

Sacred Heart Church will host "Theology Latte" on Tuesday, May 23, at noon. Anyone interested is invited to participate in a series beginning on Scripture that will look at translations, different versions and the story of the Bible. The dutch treat meeting will be held at the House of Pizza. Denomination is not important. For more information, call Sacred Heart, 489-9453.

The Christian Coalition Candidate Breakfast will be held Saturday, May 20, at 8:30 a.m. at Ryan's on Floyd Baker Boulevard. Candidates, elected officials and their guests are invited to attend and visitors are welcome.

Fund raisers

A Poor Man's Supper for Cecil Martin will be held Saturday, May 20, from 5-8 p.m. at Blacksburg Middle School. Plates are $5 each. Tickets may be purchased at Blacksburg Palmetto Bank and Leagon Racing Heads. Donations are also being taken at the Palmetto Bank; an account has been set up in his name. Martin was injured in an automobile accident in October, 2005, and has been out of work since that time. He has undergone numerous operations and possibly faces more surgery. Support groups

AA meetings are held at 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in the building behind Limestone Methodist Church on Carlisle Street. If you have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome to attend.
