BLACKSBURG STUDENT RECEIVES GOVERNOR'S CITIZENSHIP MEDAL - John Davis, a student at Blacksburg Middle School, was honored Tuesday, May 2, on the steps of the capitol building in Columbia by Gov. Mark Sanford who presented him the Governor's Citizenship Medal. A member of the FCA and Beta Club at BMS and a member of Broad River Baptist Church, where he performs volunteer work with his RA group at Iron City Ministries, John is also a member of the Blacksburg High School track team and the Blacksburg Middle School band. He has recently started running in the GNCC quad races with his father. He is the son of Tommy and Kelly Davis of Blacksburg and has a sister, Chloe. The Governor's Citizenship Medal is given to students who "consistently exhibit character, service, leadership, responsibility and discipline."
