Steven Daniel Ritchie and Courtney Gail Piercy Mr. and Mrs. William Curtis Piercy of Mount Holly, N.C., announce the engagement of their daughter, Courtney Gail, to Steven Daniel Ritchie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Milas Ritchie Jr. of Stanley, N.C.

Miss Piercy is the granddaughter of Nell Foster Hammett of Gaffney, Rosemary Piercy Carothers and her husband, Luther Carothers, of Mount Holly, and the late Bobby Hammett and the late William Monroe Piercy Jr. She earned a B.A. degree, summa cum laude, in English and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is a Phi Beta Kappa member. She is currently a third-year law student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mr. Ritchie is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Lee Shidal of Lincolnton, N.C., Nellie Whitlow Ritchie of Charlotte and the late Daniel Milas Ritchie Sr. He earned a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. In the fall, he will join the law firm of Helms, Mulliss and Wicker in its Charlotte office.

The wedding will take place on August 19 at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont, N.C.
