The clock is ticking on candidates for Board of Public Works commissioner Brenda Earls' seat to submit their petitions.

The 2-week filing period closes Thursday, May 25.

Earls' seat is the only one on the ballot.

City officials said Warren Bonner and Alice Nance have submitted their petitions.

Former Board of Public Works Electrical Department Superintendent Fred Keller has picked up his petition packet but has yet to return it, city officials said.

Keller is employed parttime by the utility but would have to relinquish that job if elected.

To qualify, the candidates must obtain signatures from 100 registered voters who live in the city.

Candidates for city council can begin filing at noon on Thursday, May 25.
