SCHOOLNEWS . GREENVILLE - John R. Dickson, son of Linda Dickson of Gaffney, was among 74 Furman University students selected for inclusion in the 2006 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." The students were nominated by a Furman committee consisting of student government leaders, faculty members and deans, and approved by the Who's Who national office. The students were selected on the basis of academic achievement, service to community, leadership in extra curricular activities and potential for continued success. . Ellis Fairchild Watson of Gaffney was among 181 students who received their Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Fla., on May 13, 2006. During the honors and awards ceremony, Watson received the adjunct, public interest, leadership development and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges awards. Watson became interested in the study of law while participating in a debating project at J. Paul Beam Elementary School. His parents are Ellis and Flossie L. Watson Jr. of Gaffney. . SPARTANBURG - Wofford College student Jennifer Almond was among 15 students inducted into the Blue Key National Honor Society on Wednesday, May 3. Almond is a member of the class of 2006. Her parents are Earl and Sherri Almond of Gaffney. Blue Key was founded in 1924 at the University of Florida. It recognizes student leaders in American colleges and universities who are willing to accept responsibilities, work with fellow students and serve their community. Students are selected for Blue Key on the basis of character, leadership, scholarship and service to the college and to mankind. . Jay Ellison Clary, formerly of Gaffney, received a Master of Science from the School of Engineering at Mercer University in Macon, Ga., on Saturday, May 13. Clary and his family now live in Warner Robins, Ga., where he is employed as a software engineer for ARINC Engineering Services, LLC, on Robins Air Force Base. . The Commissioners of the Cherokee Soil and Water Conservation District have announced the recipient of the 2006 Conservation District Scholarship. Brian Steven Oldham will graduate from Gaffney High School in June with a GPA of 3.477. He has been involved in a number of school activities including four years in the Beta Club as well as being named Student of the Month. He has lettered in varsity football and track and field for the past three years as well as lettering in academics. Some of Brian's awards and honors include being named to "Who's Who Among American High School Students," in both his junior and senior year; Certificate of Invitation to the 2005 Congressional Student Leadership Conference; induction into the National Honor Roll; and nomination as a 2005 Coker scholar and into the National Society of High School Scholars, 2006. His extracurricular activities include community and volunteer service with the national Beta Club and work through his church youth group at the Elm Street Church of God. Oldham has been accepted at Missouri State University and will pursue undergraduate as well as a master's degree in Environmental Geosciences. |
