Students ponder work ethics

The Limestone College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team hosted an Ethics Essay Competition for students who attend the Cherokee Technology Center (CTC). SIFE selected CTC because of its extensive program in the field of business. "We implemented this essay in order to inform and educate students about the presence

of ethics in the business world," Jonathan Godfrey, Vice President of SIFE, said.

The topic for the competition was: "You are a waitress or a waiter at a restaurant. The procedure is for all servers to divide their tips evenly. Is it ok for you to keep a portion of the tips left by your customers for a job well done if other servers do not seem to be working as hard as you are?"

Two students were selected as winners of the competition and received a $25 gift certificate to Applebee's of Gaffney. Tanner Ettlemeyer, a senior student at Blacksburg High School, and Jennifer Way, a senior student at Gaffney High School, wrote the winning essays.
