The South all-stars had the North all-stars on the ropes until Gaffney golfers Josh Gallman and Brandon Coggins changed the South's fortunes.

On the second day of the event, which featured Ryder Cup-like match play, Gallman and Coggins led a rally that turned a 6-4 deficit into an 119 victory for the North at the North-South All-Star Golf Tournament at Farmstead Golf Links last weekend.

Gallman defeated Sumter's Scott Glaze, who is ranked No. 9 in the state, 2 and 1.

Coggins, who has signed to play with North Greenville next season, was even more impressive, defeating another top 10-ranked golfer, Chris Cough of Stratford High School, 4 and 3.

"Brandon and Josh scored two points for their team and they were integral in the North's win," Gaffney golf coach Mark Ireton said. "Both were able to finish their high school careers on a positive note.

"Josh played well and Brandon really handled his opponent handily. I'm very proud of both of them."

Gallman, who will play at USC-Upstate next season, said the event was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"I had a great time," he said. "It was a beautiful golf course and there was a lot of great competition."

Gallman is a fan of match play.

"It's a fun type of golf," he said. "I was down after the first hole but I was able to win the next two holes."
