Saints volleyball team reloads for another winning season Last season, the Limestone volleyball team had its first winning season since 1998. That recent success should continue with the signing of four outstanding recruits. Ashley Hubbard, a junior middle hitter, is a transfer from Temple College in Texas. She will re-join former teammate Amber Wise, who played for Temple College for a year. Hubbard led Temple in kills with 197, blocks with 116 and finished second on the team in aces with 22. She earned all-conference and all-region honors from the NCAA. "Ashley is a very hard worker who is dedicated to perfecting her volleyball skills," Limestone coach Tim Loesch said. Chelsea Anthony was a three-year starter at Pickens High, where she led her team to state championships in 2004 and 2005. She earned allconference and all-state honors and was selected as the most valuable player of the SC All-Star Game. She will play as a defensive specialist for the Lady Saints. "Chelsea is a fierce competitor and a terrific teammate with the skills to play for us immediately as a freshman," Loesch said. "She is a proven winner who brings a positive attitude along with strong leadership to the team." Amanda Howie is a 5-11 inside hitter from Bryson City, N.C. She earned all-conference honors at Swain County High School. She led her team to two conference titles and two state playoff berths. "I've watched Amanda improve consistently over the past two seasons and I really like the player she is becoming," the Limestone coach said. Mallorie Ward was an all-region performer at Wade Hampton High, where she was team captain and most valuable player. "Mallorie is a good all-around player with the ability to play a variety of positions for us," Loesch said. "She has a lot of determination and desire, along with some untapped potential." |
