Fund raisers
The Building Fund Committee of Westside Full Gospel Baptist Church will be sponsoring a fish fry/ hot dog plate sale on Saturday, June 3, starting at 10 a.m.. The church is located at 317 W. Rutledge Ave. (corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) Fish sandwiches will be $2.50 (plates, $5); hot dogs (homemade chili) 75 cents each (plates, $4); and hamburgers, $1.75 each (plates, $4). All plates include baked beans, coleslaw and a drink. Call (864) 384-7175 for delivery of orders over $20.
Political events
The Cherokee County Republican Party will hold a rally Saturday at Lake Whelchel from 4-8 p.m. Free hot dogs will be served and speakers will include candidates for the major county and state races. State candidates will speak first, followed by county candidates.
Special events
A car and truck show will be held Saturday, June 3, at Orchard Park at Sunny Slope Flea Market. Registration will be from 10 a.m. until noon. Divisions include baddest of the bad, street rods, classics, muscle cars, 4x4 trucks and low riders. Registration will be from 10 a.m. until noon. Church events
Midway Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming Sunday, June 4, at 11 a.m. All members, former members and friends are invited to attend. Dr. Danny Emory, who served the church for over nine years, will be back to bring the morning message. Lunch will follow in the Family Life Center. Dr. M.B. Morrow Jr. is the interim pastor at Midway.
West End Baptist Church, 400 Overbrook Drive, will have a singing Sunday, June 4, at 6 p.m. featuring Betty Gentry, Ray Chalk and John Gentry.
Sardis United Methodist Church on Sardis Road in the McKown's Mountain community, will observe homecoming Sunday, June 4. The day will begin at 11 a.m. with a worship service, followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m. A singing
at 2 p.m. will feature The Hamptons, The Larks, Sardis Jubilee, The Simmersons and Children's Choir.
Harris Baptist Church will have memorial services on Sunday, June 4. The pastor, Rev. George M. Whitmire, will conduct the morning worship service and lunch will be served at 1 p.m. A special singing at 2 p.m. will feature the Rogers Trio of Blacksburg and the Rogers Family of Rutherfordton.
There will be a yard sale and hot dog sale at New Harvest Ministries, 215 Pecan St., Saturday, June 3, starting at 8 a.m. Hot dogs will be served beginning at 10 a.m. Proceeds will go to the church building fund.
The YWA's of Mikes Creek Baptist Church will sponsor their annual program Sunday, June 4, at 3 p.m. Special guest will be the Rev. Michael Golden, pastor of Limestone Baptist Church. Visiting YWAs are asked to wear lavender and white.
The Youth Department of Mikes Creek Baptist Church will sponsor a youth conference on Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Bridges, pastor of Concord Baptist Church, and Officer Donald Davis of Greenville as special guests.
All Junior Missionaries' Advisors of the Thickety Mountain Baptist Association will meet Monday, June 5, at 6 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 218 Dr. L.M. Rosemond Lane, to finalize plans for the State Junior Convention which will be on June 13 at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Charleston. It is important for all advisors to be present due to the convention's election in which there are two local candidates for office.
Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens, will honor its graduates from kindergarten, high school and college on Sunday, June 4, during the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Bibles from the church family will be presented by Pastor Sanders. Parents and relatives will also be recognized.
Bethel Baptist Church will honor its graduates from Head Start, five-year-old kindergarten, high school and college on Sunday, June 4, during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. High school seniors will be in charge of the pulpit service and speaker will be Marcus McCluney. Bibles from the church family will be presented by Pastor Sanders. Parents and relatives will also be recognized.
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Cherokee Falls Road in Blacksburg will celebrate
homecoming Sunday, June 4. The Chapelettes will sing at 10 a.m. and morning worship will be at 11 with Jason Patterson as guest speaker. A fellowship meal will follow the morning service and the day will end with a churchwide singing at 2 p.m. There will be no evening service.
