Jonathan Crossley Crossley receives State Fair scholarship
Jonathan Crossley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Crossley, is recipient of a South Carolina State Fair Scholarship. Crossley was chosen from more than 600 applicants from across the state.
Outstanding academic achievement, citizenship and attitude were keys in the selection.
While attending Gaffney High School, Crossley has served as vice-president of the Student Body and is a four-year member of the Beta Club, serving as president for three years. He served as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, South Carolina Secretary of State for the Teenage Republicans and a member of the South Carolina Teacher Cadet Program.
He was named a Gaffney High Student of the Month and served on the Principal's Advisory Committee. He is a member of the GHS Teenage Republicans and named Kappa Leaguer of the Year 2005-2006. He has served as president of the Spanish Club and was named an Outstanding Senior.
Crossley is a local winner of the Voice of Democracy speech contest and nominated to the South Carolina Oratorical Contest and the National Achievement Academy for Student Council. He was also nominated to serve on the Student Advisory Committee for the South Carolina Education State Board by Dr. William James.
Humphries He received a South Carolina High School League of Scholar Athlete Award and the Prudential Spirit of Community awards and was a Gaffney High School Hall of Fame Josten's Outstanding Senior. He was a member of the Palmetto Boys State and was named to Who's Who Among American High School Students his junior and senior years. He lettered in varsity cross county and soccer and also participated in basketball and baseball.
Crossley will be attending the University of South Carolina this fall and will major in political science
Prince honored
with Spirit Award
Gaffney students on Clemson Dean's List
SPARTANBURG - University of South Carolina Upstate student MSII Cadet Stephen Prince received the United States Automobile Association Spirit Award at the recently held Southern Guards Battalion ROTC Awards Banquet at Wofford College.
Prince is a Class of 2008 psychology major and son of Windon Prince and Maddie Chambers, both of Gaffney.
The Southern Guards Battalion is composed of ROTC cadets from Wofford College, Converse College, Spartanburg Methodist College, Limestone College and University of South Carolina Upstate.
The U.S. Automobile Association Spirit Award is presented to a cadet who demonstrates and furthers Esprit de Corps through Corps of Cadets. The award is signified by a plaque engraved with the cadet's name that is permanently on display in the military science department. The cadet also receives a crystal clock.

wins USAA honor
The United States Achievement Academy has announced during the spring semester have earned inclusion on the Dean's List at Clemson University. To be named to the Dean's List, students achieved a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.
Students on the list from Gaffney include Mary G. Cash, Sociology; Evan S. Culp, Undeclared; Addison W.Hamrick, Management; Joseph Lowry Love II, Horticulture; Frankie L. Posey Jr., General Engineering; Michael J.Pridmore, Civil Engineering; and Clyde P. Thomas, Professional Golf Management. Middle School and was nominated for this national award by Vicki Huffstetler, a teacher at the school. He will appear in the United States Achievement Academy official yearbook, which is published nationally.
The academy selects USAA winners upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors and other qualified sponsors and upon the Standards of Selection set forth by the academy. The criteria for selection are a students' academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a qualified sponsor.
Humphries is the son of Joe and Rhonda Humphries of Gaffney. His grandparents are Leemonda Humphries of Gaffney, the late Ronald E. Humphries and the late George A. and Mary Ann Manning.
