Cherokee Animal Welfare League will meet
Are you interested in helping stop the unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable pets at the Cherokee County Consolidated Animal Shelter?
For those who are interested, the first meeting of the Cherokee Animal Welfare League will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Cherokee County Public Library.
The welfare league was formed by a group of animal activists who are ready to take action to improve the lives of the county's unwanted animals.
The goals of the Cherokee Animal Welfare League are to eliminate the euthanasia of adoptable pets at the local animal shelter and improve the size, appearance and effective function of the shelter, according to Judy Wyles who is helping to organize the group. Members will be expected to participate either financially by donating, fundraising or grant writing, or directly through volunteering, fostering, rescuing, transporting, lobbying and educating.
Group organizers want the welfare league to be nonhierarchical, and work with no officers, by-laws, budgets or other traditional organizational structure. Individuals and organizations will continue their independent animal welfare operations and offer assistance to each other on a voluntary basis.
