By SCOTT BAUGHMAN Ledger Staff Writer scottb@gaffneyledger.com

The Cherokee County chapter of the American Red Cross will have a new face behind the desk at its service center soon.

"The American Red Cross is proud to announce the appointment of Shellie Wylie as the Manager of the Cherokee County Service Center located at 301 North Limestone Street in Gaffney," said Barry White, Piedmont Chapter coordinator for the nonprofit group.

Wylie comes to the Red Cross with a rich background in the nonprofit sector, human resources and community service. For the past three years she has worked with the Arts Partnership in Spartanburg, first as the executive director of the Spartanburg Little Theater and most recently as the marketing director of the Music Foundation of Spartanburg. Previously, she served as the program director of the Boys & Girls Club of Cherokee County. Wylie has also been employed as the finance director for the City of Gaffney.

She is married to Lt. Scott Wylie of the Gaffney Police Department. They have three children: Joshua, a student at Spartanburg Technical College, 9-year-old Grace and 7-year-old Joy.

"I am excited to be coming back to the service sector of the community to serve the people of Cherokee County," Wylie said.

She will begin her duties June 19.

"We are pleased to inform you that Shellie Wylie as been selected as the manager of our office in the county service center," White added. "There were 27 applicants for the position. We are confident that Shellie will do a good job for us. Please drop by the Red Cross office to met Shellie and discuss the activities of the American Red Cross in Cherokee County."
