(Ledger photo by LARRY HILLARD) If expected voter turnout is any indication, the candidates themselves may be the only people interested in the results of the Republican Party runoff election Tuesday.

About 17 percent of the county's 29,000 registered voters cast ballots in the Democrat and Republican Party primaries two weeks ago. That number is expected to drop sharply for the runoff.

"I don't look for a big crowd," Cherokee County Election Commission Chairman Suzanne Turner said.

One of the reasons is that there won't be any local races up for grabs. There will be two statewide Republican races on the ballot.

Incumbent Andre Bauer faces Mike Campbell in the Republican lieutenant governor's race. Thomas Ravenel faces challenger Jeff Willis in a Republican runoff for state treasurer.

There is no Democrat Party runoff. That means county residents who voted in the Democrat primary two weeks ago are ineligible to cast a ballot on Tuesday.

Only registered voters who cast ballots in the Republican Party Primary or who didn't vote at all can vote in the runoff, Turner said.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
