Career Fair planned for tomorrow in Blacksburg The Friends to the End organization will hold a career fair Saturday with the goal of helping introduce residents to different career opportunities. The career fair will be held from 12-3 p.m. in the Blacksburg community building, located between the town hall and police department at 103 S. Shelby Street. The event is sponsored by the Friends to the End Association, a nonprofit education organization formed in 2004 by a group of longtime friends in Blacksburg. Newark One, Wal-Mart, the Town of Blacksburg, Blacksburg Police Department and local school district are among the employers who will have representatives. The career fair is one of several activities that will be held over the next several months by Friends to the End. "We will have a good mixture of companies and businesses at the career fair. This will be a great opportunity to apply and interview with a variety of companies," said Janie Wilson, who is helping organize the event. "This career fair will be a good networking opportunity for people who are interested in a career change." Friends to the End was formed with the initial goal of providing higher education scholarships for minorities and organizing events to help economically disadvantaged families. The group hopes to form partnerships with area companies to expand economic opportunities to the Blacksburg area. |
